Our women empowerment mission
Women empowerment is at the heart of sustainable development and social transformation. Our programme recognises women as key agents of change in their families and communities. Across twenty-five years the annual reports record 1,345 men’s and women’s self-help groups formed in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu, and 34,572 women trained or benefited across thirteen reported years — work that runs from social empowerment and financial inclusion to enterprise development and community mobilization.
The early watershed years organised 10,925 people into self-help groups; by 2005–06 the trust recorded 644 groups with 11,814 members across nine districts. Coodu Trust was the approved NGO for Mahalir Thittam in Karur district, has facilitated bank and scheme credit to those groups through SGSY, IWDP, NABARD and TAHDCO, and reported 2,168 income-generation beneficiaries in its 2018–19 report. The money that reaches the groups is bank and government money; what the trust contributes is the organising, the training and the linkage.
