Our education mission
Building futures through education
Education and skilling are fundamental pillars for sustainable development and poverty alleviation. Our programme recognises education as the most powerful tool to transform individuals, families and communities. The 2018–19 annual report records 18,592 skill-training beneficiaries — overwhelmingly women trained as sewing machine operators — together with 2,168 beneficiaries of income-generation programmes, and states that more than 80% of candidates went into employment in the leading industries of their districts.
Skill training is delivered under national and state schemes for which the trust is empanelled — DDU-GKY, PMKVY, NULM, the National Rurban Mission, NSDC and TNSDC. Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana of the Ministry of Rural Development, Coodu Trust is a Project Implementing Agency: 624 rural youth have been trained in Karur district and 582 placed in textile mills in Karur and Tiruppur. Alongside the training, seven government schools in Manur block of Tirunelveli were rebuilt and re-equipped under the School Adoption Programme funded by ATC Tyres through United Way, Mumbai.
